Jefferson County Unit
Charles town, wv
Chartered in December of 1997, the Jefferson County Club was founded by community members with the desire to provide programming for young people in their community. Community leaders, Maureen Theriault, John and Karen Maher, Gary Chicchirichi, and Karen Hoff along with many others worked with surrounding clubs and Boys & Girls Clubs of America to charter this Jefferson County treasure. Opening with just 12 members, the club's first home was Zion Episcopal Church. From these humble beginnings, the Club relocated to 334 North Lawrence Street, where for nearly a year, the club operated out of a trailer on the grounds until the new facility renovations were completed in 1998. Thanks to a partnership with the FOCUS Coalition, the Club found its new home in the former Dixie Narco paint building. In 2013, the building was deeded to the Boys & Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle to serve Jefferson County youth for generations to come. The Jefferson County Club now serves hundreds of children and families each year with students from Ranson Elementary, Wright-Denny Intermediate, Page Jackson Elementary, Harpers Ferry Middle, and Charles Town Middle Schools attending each day.
